About Boundary Financial Planning

Jon Denning owner and IFA of Boundary Financial Planning

Financial planning built around your life, not just your money

I’m Jonathan Denning, founder of Boundary Financial Planning.

Before becoming a financial adviser, I worked in corporate roles spanning accounting, treasury and mergers and acquisitions. I hold a Master’s degree in Finance and Investment and completed my financial advice and mortgage qualifications through LIBF.

That experience gave me a strong technical understanding of finance, investments and business. It also taught me that the most important financial decisions rarely sit neatly in isolation. Your income, career, business, pensions, investments, property, family and future ambitions are all connected.

My role is to bring those moving parts together and turn them into a clear, practical plan.

The next chapter of Green Planet Finance

Boundary Financial Planning represents the next chapter of Green Planet Finance.

Green Planet Finance was where the business began and where many of the client relationships I value today were established. As the business developed, the advice became broader, the planning became more detailed and the relationships with clients became increasingly long term.

The move to Boundary reflects what the business has grown into.

It is a financial planning firm designed to help clients look beyond the immediate decision in front of them. That could mean looking beyond an individual pension, investment or mortgage and understanding how it contributes to the life they want to build.

The name may be changing, but the personal service, relationships and commitment to looking after clients remain at the heart of the business.

Supporting clients through every innings of life

Every client comes to me at a different point in their life.

Some are high earners or professionals who are building wealth while balancing demanding careers, growing tax bills, mortgages and family commitments. They may have accumulated several pensions, shares, investments and savings but have never brought them together into one clear strategy.

Some are business owners whose personal and company finances are closely connected. They may be considering company pension contributions, how to extract and invest profits, protecting fellow shareholders, preparing for a future sale or turning the value of their business into lasting personal wealth.

Others are approaching retirement and want to understand when work can become optional. They need clarity around how much income they may require, how their pensions and investments could support them and whether they can afford to enjoy retirement while still helping their children or grandchildren.

For families with established wealth, the focus may move towards inheritance tax, gifting and passing assets between generations. The challenge is often finding the right balance between enjoying and retaining enough wealth for their own security while supporting the people who matter most to them.

Mortgages and protection also form part of the wider picture. A house move, changing income, a growing family or an expanding business can all change the level of borrowing or protection someone needs.

These different stages are connected. Good financial planning should evolve with you rather than beginning again every time your circumstances change.

Client care that goes beyond the initial advice

The part of financial planning I enjoy most is building relationships with clients.

I want clients to feel comfortable asking questions, raising concerns and discussing important decisions before they act. That requires more than knowing the value of their pensions or investment portfolio. It means understanding their family, career, business, ambitions and what they genuinely want their money to make possible.

I do not believe in creating a financial plan and leaving the client to work out what happens next.

We agree the priorities, put the appropriate actions in place and continue working through them together. I help clients understand what needs to happen, why it matters and what the next step should be.

As life changes, the plan changes too.

A promotion, new child, business sale, inheritance, house move, retirement or change in health can alter someone’s priorities very quickly. Having an ongoing relationship means clients have someone who already understands their position and can help them respond confidently.

My aim is to make complex financial decisions feel clearer and more manageable, while ensuring clients continue moving towards the goals that matter to them.

Away from financial planning

Outside work, I enjoy playing cricket and golf, although both regularly provide reminders that long term improvement requires patience. I am also a keen rugby supporter and enjoy spending time with my family.

Sport has always appealed to me because progress rarely comes from one big decision. It comes from preparation, consistency and making sensible adjustments along the way. Financial planning is much the same.

It is about understanding the position you are in, deciding where you want to get to and having someone alongside you to help put the plan into action.
